After much hard work the big day arrived...firstly the students
had a written exam to test their increased knowledge of martial arts in general
and more importantly, a greater understanding of our association.
Over the past months the students have been encouraged to teach at their clubs
under the guidance of their Instructor to get used to having all eyes focussed
on them and to build confidence in their own teaching skills.
A Junior Black Belt can be identified by the black belt with the white stripe
running down the centre. The course is open to all students graded blue belt and
above. This year it was great to see so many Black Belts on the course.
As we have always stated, just because you know a technique it doesn’t mean you
can teach it. Equally, great fighters don’t always make great coaches.
The basic duties of a Junior Black belt could be as simple as saying hello to new
students as they arrive at a club, giving them a basic introduction to our system.
Experienced Junior Instructors may be asked by the club Instructor to take a warm
up or even split beginners off from the main class and run them through a basic
lesson.
If you feel you would enjoy helping coach then look for the next year’s dates for
the Junior Black Belt course which will be posted soon on the website.
