New Mills Club News
Nwckb's goals to teach effective and practical martial arts through western kickboxing and eastern kung fu to all who wish to participate, continue to evolve and progress further with the greatly appreciated support of Councillor Beth Atkins and her Derbyshire County Council community leadership fund.

Cllr Beth Atkins was introduced to NWCKB during a New Mills national play day event she was helping to run along with other members of Ollersett United Community Hub (O.U.C.H) in August 2010. Local members of NWCKB gave a display at the play day event to raise awareness of martial arts as a positive and rewarding pass time for children and adults alike and this resulted in around 20 youngsters coming along to the club to have a go!

Since then Beth Atkins has shown her support by sponsoring Danielle and Sharon Allsop, with a contribution from her Derbyshire County Council Community Leadership Fund, towards their attending the World Kickboxing Council tournament held at Portugal in 2010. The Many medals won by the club made this a good investment!
Beth felt that NWCKB members were providing role models for local youngsters with a hobby that not only promotes health and personal well being, encourages exercise and teaches discipline, but it also gives local people an opportunity to participate in the sport for personal satisfaction with an option of working towards competing in martial arts at a world class level. To participate in martial arts and excel takes a great amount of hard work, dedication and discipline, traits that also contribute to being a positive member of the community.
With classes run across various leisure centres in the High Peak including New Mills (6:30pm to 7:30pm on Tuesday evenings) NWCKB are providing the local community from the age of 5 to 60+ with the opportunity to participate and progress in martial arts. Some of the students recruited by the Fun Day are already excelling, having passed grading, and are showing the potential to be future competition winners.

Cllr Beth Atkins has stepped in again, providing sponsorship for a bank of training uniforms for the new junior members at the New Mills club to ensure that the cost of taking part does not deter any youngsters. Recognising this as a social problem Ollersett United Community Hub are aiming to set up a fund to support local people, so that the cost of taking part in sports etc., is not an inhibiting factor for local people and will be fund raising for this.

The NWCKB junior students are all working very hard and showing great progression within the club, they are looking forward to wearing their new uniforms these will create an even greater sense of unity which will assist the junior students in achieving their goals within the club.

Our gratitude goes out to Councillor Elizabeth Atkins for her continued support through the Derbyshire County Council community leadership fund.

Once the New Mills Students are kitted out in their new uniforms we wish to invite Beth back to the club to see the students and let them show her how they are progressing in Martial Arts.
